Soaps and Cleaners on a Budget

December 27th, 2008 by WMMedia | No Comments | Filed in Financial Planning

Regardless of how tight your budget is, there’s no need to go without soap and detergents. In fact, there are a number of alternatives to commercial soaps that are cheaper and healthier for you and your family. Among other things, you may find that reducing your exposure to the phthalates and fragrances found in commercial cleaning products may alleviate a number of immune-related problems.

Making Plant Based Soaps

As you may or may not be aware, most commercial soaps are made from animal fats. While you can make these products on your own, you may not be able to tolerate the smell of fat rendering if you live in an apartment or poorly ventilated area. That said, there are many plant-based soap recipes for you to try at a fraction of the cost. In many cases, you l find that these soaps clean just as well as animal-based ones. You l also be able to add a variety of herb-based skin conditioners and fragrances to improve your homemade soaps.

Budget Home Fresheners

Of course, you can always go to a dollar store and buy home air fresheners on the cheap. But have you ever read the warning labels on many of these products the ones that read, o not inhale directly? There’s no way to know what, if any, long term health problems could result from breathing in these foreign chemicals, so you may want to consider some other ways to deodorize your home. For example, you may want try burning natural beeswax candles to improve the smell of your home, or try making your own blends of essential oils and potpourris.

In the kitchen, a simple open box of baking soda will keep your refrigerator and freezer smelling fresh and clean. You may also want to freshen up carpets by sprinkling baking soda on them, and then vacuuming the next day. This method will work well for pet odors, as well as many other unpleasant odors. Unfortunately, if it’s humid in your area, you may find the baking soda sticks to the carpet. If you aren’t sure whether or not this will work for you, it may be best to test the product in a small area first.

Vinegar and Your Laundry

Even though white vinegar is fairly cheap, it’s one of the best things you can add to your laundry to prevent static cling, increase fabric brightness and reduce all kinds of stains. In many cases, presoaking with vinegar and water will restore clothes with all kinds of stains on them, including wine, grass and grease stains. As more information becomes available about the link between the fragrances used in soaps and an increase in cancer rates, it may be to your advantage to avoid commercial products at all costs. Fortunately, you l find that vinegar is a safe, inexpensive alternative.

Aside from being expensive, there’s a growing body of evidence that commercial soaps can have negative health consequences. Therefore, being budget conscious when it comes to these items may also equate to being health conscious. For example, simply substituting vinegar for your fabric softener and stain booster may save you from being exposed to a number of harmful chemicals. In a similar way, using baking soda to eliminate odors can help give you a clean smelling home without the financial and health costs associated with commercial deodorants.

Back To School Apparel Shopping On A Budget

December 27th, 2008 by astratton | No Comments | Filed in E-Commerce

It comes at the end of every glorious summer and you know what that is yep, it’s back to school shopping. It doesn’t matter how many kids you have to buy for, shopping for back to school apparel can get very expensive, especially with the ever-changing fashion trends and expensive brand names. So, how can you get everything your child needs and some of what she wants without disappointing her and burning a hole in your pocket? Luckily, you have a lot of options.

Here are a few ways you can stick to your budget and keep everyone happy:
1. First and foremost, don’t leave the house without a list. What essentials have the kids grown out of that they absolutely must have- think jeans, shoes, etc. Talk to your kids and see what they think they’ve got to have. You know- “Susie’s got this pair of jeans or that graphic t-shirt so I want them too!” Important Disclaimer: For the list to work, you have to take it with you and follow it.

2. Ok, look over the list and come up with a budget that your family can afford. Let your kids know they may have to compromise if they want something out of the budget. If they just have to have those designer jeans, then they will get less in the way of shirts. However if it works out, stick to the budget!

3. See if your state, county or city is going to have a tax holiday weekend. This is becoming very popular for back to school shopping where you are exempt from paying taxes on clothes, computers and school supplies. You can save big bucks when you don’t have to pay taxes plus, the stores might have big sales and at the same time to bring customers in. If your area doesn’t do this, it might be worth suggesting it.

4. If your kids have to have branded stuff, visit the closest outlet mall or shop on-line. You may have to do some digging, but there are great deals to be had on quality clothes. For the basics, don’t be afraid to buy from the local retail stores. There are many great designers creating cool clothing lines for these shops at very reasonable prices.

5. Check out on-line auctions or organize a swap-meet with friends. When you can bid on an item, you set the maximum amount you want to spend on it. Hand-me-downs are great and cost nothing.

6. Another option for back to school apparel shopping is to check out the consignment and thrift stores in town. Retro and vintage are cool these days and these stores are often great sources for clothes. Thrift shops are also great for cool graphic tees that you won’t find anywhere else.

7. Finally, it is good to actually start early. Buy when the seasons change and things are on sale. Maybe not a good idea for jeans since they are hard to fit without trying on, but you can save on shorts, shirts, heavy coats and sweats if you buy them on clearance at season’s end, just get the next size up.

It often takes a little effort, but you can outfit the kids in back to school apparel that will please everyone but won’t break the bank. A little negotiating, planning and digging through the racks can pay off big in the long run.

The Uber Shop offers discount clothing for kids in their kids and baby catalog online. All products offered through The Uber Shop are name brand products, like Ralph Lauren and Nautilus, that are available at least 50% off retail. www.theubershop.com.

Fall Fashions: Plaid’s Not Just for Kilts

December 27th, 2008 by astratton | No Comments | Filed in E-Commerce

Fashion trends come and go- season in and season out- new colors, styles and fabrics find their way into department stores and boutiques. Before you head to choose your new wardrobe of fall fashions, you need to know what’s hot and what’s not. One popular look for fall is plaid. Before you think that may be too much for you, here are some options to sneak this hot fall had into your wardrobe (without looking like a little school girl).

You don’t have to be part of a clan or play the bagpipes to wear plaid. And, this year’s fall fashions have laid in all colors – not just the traditional red and green. You can get black and white, pink and black, purple and white- think of a color combination and you’ll find it. Patterns are popular in all sizes too. Small or large, you can choose the pattern that looks best on you.

In outerwear, plaid coats are hot right now. Pair a checkered pea coat or blazer with a turtleneck. If that’s too much, drape a tartan scarf around a solid coat or wrap it around your waist for a belt. There’s also the classic pleated mini that looks great with solid opaque tights and some ankle boots, which are in fashion this fall too. Pair a plaid jumper with a solid turtleneck and opaque tights. There are so many options available to you with this trend because it is such a classic look.

Seek out tartans in some of the hot colors for fall fashions and you’ll be killing two fashion birds with one stone. Colors like burnt orange and shitake, yes think the color of the mushroom, are hot this fall and make a great checkered combination. Red and mustard yellow are showing up in department stores, but purple, in various shades, is the “it” color for fall. If the bold colors are not quite ‘You’, go with a classic black and white combination and add red accessories for color.

If you’re afraid to go with a skirt or top in plaid, you can still be a part of the fall fashions trend with checkered accessories. Throw a scarf with check patterns around your neck – you can get silk, cashmere or wool depending on how dressy you want to look. Another option is a fun handbag. Big or small, a plaid handbag adds a nice touch to an outfit. You can even get plaid pumps or heels. Of course, you want to pair your pumps, handbag and scarf with basic solid colors. Too many patterns are too much for the eyes.

Whether you shop at the department stores, discount retailers or on-line, you should be able to find the perfect piece of checkered clothing. It’s a classic that goes great with solids, dressy or casual- just avoid the head to toe look. It’s easy to follow the latest fashion trends and it doesn’t have to break your bank. Pick one look that you love and work a plaid piece into it- shoes, handbag, skirt, etc. Because fall fashions are always changing, you don’t need a closet full of tartans. Go with the basics and jazz it up with a little plaid. You’ll be looking pretty in plaid and in style.

One popular look for this fall is plaids. Add a piece of plaid in your wardrobe and get fashionable this season. The Uber Shop offers great discount mens apparel childrens clothes, womens fashions and more. Find more details at http://www.theubershop.com.

The Secret To Successful Affiliate Marketing

December 24th, 2008 by frumbauskas | No Comments | Filed in E-Commerce

When I began selling products online, I never once intended to become an affiliate marketer. In fact, I didn’t even know what affiliate marketing was! As an author of books – first my own self-published, then published books – affiliate marketing was unknown to me because, in the world of authors, there are usually no affiliate links. In our world, if I mail to promote a book, the other author returns the favor. Nice and simple. No affiliate checks or programs to mess with!

Internet marketing is different, however, and affiliate marketing and JVs are a prime source of traffic for most marketers.

When some big-name marketers first approached me to promote their products, I had no idea an affiliate check would soon be in my mailbox. I just assumed that internet marketers did things the way authors did – I’d mail for them, and they’d mail for me. Imagine my surprise when a big fat check arrived a few weeks later!

I’m now considered a top affiliate marketer. I routinely make five figures whenever I promote a big launch, and internet marketers are always asking me how I do it.

And therein lies the irony – I’m a top affiliate marketer because I never wanted to be one!

If you backwards analyze my business model, the reason why I do so well promoting affiliate products is simple. It’s because affiliate marketing is an afterthought for me. I have a large and very loyal list, and as a result, they listen when I promote. My unsubscribe rates are ridiculously low, even when I promote hard. By contrast, most new internet marketers who decide to earn their income as affiliates do poorly. The reason, quite simply, is because top affiliates are usually not just affiliates. They are people who have a product and a platform – THAT is why people listen when they promote.

Let’s look at the reasons why I do so well as an affiliate, and how I built my business up to this level:

1. My business promotes my own products first.

I started my business to promote my own products. Not someone else’s. As a result of this, I have a solid platform and people can identify me with specific markets and niches. I have established expert credibility in my chosen niches, and this goes a long way to achieving long-term credibility with my list.

2. My list provides high-quality content, not advertising.

When someone signs up for my list, with a ten chapter free download as an incentive, they are signing up to receive content. Do I sell my products via my list? Yes, of course I do – that’s why it exists in the first place – but I do it very subtly. I pack each newsletter with powerful information and tips, and gently remind readers at the very end of the newsletter that they can get a lot more where that came from by purchasing my product.

What I DO NOT do is send out pushy, spammy, high-pressure content trying to push people into buying. Doing that would have destroyed my success a long time ago!

3. I don’t promote affiliate products often.

Nobody joined my list to hear third-party product promotions. They joined to get a free download from me, followed by free content weekly. As a result, I don’t promote affiliate products to my list often. This keeps the integrity and quality of my list intact, and keeps unsubscribes low. Furthermore, when I do promote an affiliate product to my list, it’s a BIG hit, because the leads are receptive. They don’t expect a sales pitch when they open one of my emails.

4. I only promote high-quality products and marketers.

I don’t promote anything unless I know firsthand that it’s a high-quality product or service. In addition, I don’t promote for marketers unless I know for a fact that they are the real deal, and they are who they say they are. We all know there are marketers all over the internet making bogus income claims and exaggerating their success; therefore, I don’t promote for anyone unless I know for an absolute fact that they have done everything they claim to have done.

And, while I’m thinking of it, a word on list-building: I obviously have a large list. That’s how I promote. But, unlike many new marketers, I didn’t build that list through JVs. Yes, JVs are the fastest way to build a list. And if you’re brand-new to internet marketing and have no list, that’s a good way to begin building one. The problem, however, is that your list isn’t exclusive. You’re picking up names that are on several other marketers’ lists.

The reason I’m able to do so well in big promotions and blow out a lot of the big gurus is simply because my list is exclusive. By building it in several niches via AdWords, YouTube marketing, and more, I have names that the others don’t. That’s how I, with a list of around 100,000, can outperform marketers with much larger lists. It’s because they may have more subscribers, but I have more exclusives who won’t see the offer from anyone else.

In summary, keep these points in mind. If you work on building your own business with your own products first, you’ll automatically become a powerful affiliate marketer in a very short time!

Understanding the State of the U.S. Economic Crisis

December 24th, 2008 by WeInvestOnline | No Comments | Filed in Financial Planning

Some of my other articles have touched on the enormity of the current credit crisis, but since this issue seems to be at the forefront of financial news lately, I’d like to take a minute to discuss the United States’ situation in better detail.

According to Mike Larson, author of an article recently published in Money and Markets, in the past year or so, the United States government has loaned, invested, or promised the following amounts:

- $200 billion to help the world’s largest mortgage companies, Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac, get back on their feet
- $25 billion (so far) to the three auto manufacturing giants
- $29 billion to Bear Stearns
- $150 billion went to AIG
- $350 billion shelled out to Citigroup
- $300 billion was put into the Federal Housing Administration rescue bill intended to refinance faulty mortgages
- $87 billion paid back JPMorgan Chase for bad Lehman Brothers trades
- $200 billion went toward the government’s Reserve Term Auction Facility, which provided loans to banks
- $50 billion supported short-term corporate IOUs that were held by money market mutual funds
- $500 billion rescued various credit markets
- $620 billion left our country to provide aid to industrial nations, such as the Bank of Canada, Bank of England, and the Bank of Japan, just to name a few
- $120 billion more left out country to help emerging markets like the Bank of Brazil, the Bank of Mexico, etc.
- A few miscellaneous trillion dollars went toward other government promises to bail out failing institutions

The grand total of this spending spree was a whopping $7.8 trillion, and it’s not over yet.

How much is this obscure number worth, you ask? Mike Larson puts it into perspective for us. He explains that $7.8 trillion is:

- Half the annual output of the U.S. economy in its entirety
- Equal to an astounding $25,507 for every man, woman and child in the U.S.
- Three-quarters of the public debt acquired prior to this credit crisis. That’s right; in a matter of months, the government managed to loan, invest, or promise three-quarters of the debt that previously took two hundred years to accumulate.

If that’s not quite enough information, Jim Bianco of Bianco Research offers further explanation to help us better understand how much debt the government truly owes.

He says that the cost of the current bailout plans are more than all of the following events in America’s history combined (of course, he accounted for the cost of inflation, so all costs noted are in current dollars):

- The Marshall Plan, which went toward rebuilding Western Europe after WWII. Total cost: $115.3 billion
- The Louisiana Purchase, which, as you probably know, was the government’s purchase of 829,000 square miles of land from France. Total cost: $217 billion
- The Apollo moon missions from 1961 all the way through 1972. Total cost: $237 billion
- Bailing out the S & L crisis. Some of you may remember that between 1986 and 1995, more than 1,000 savings and loans worth over $500 billion failed, and the government stepped in to help. Total cost: $256 billion
- The Korean War. Total cost: $454 billion
- The New Deal, which was FDR’s plan to pull the U.S. economy out of the Great Depression. Total cost: an estimated $500 billion
- The Gulf War II, aka the War on Terror, including the cost for homeland security and both theaters of war operations in Iraq and Afghanistan. Total cost: $698 billion
- The Vietnam War. Total cost: $698 billion
- All of the money spent to date on the NASA space program. Total cost: $851.2 billion

The grand total of the above life-altering events was $3.92 trillion, about $359 billion less than the current bailout packages. And we haven’t even touched on another major event in the world’s history: World War II, which would cost $3.6 trillion in today’s money. Even this enormous bill doesn’t come close to equaling the cost of the current bailout packages.

So there you go, a quick and simple education in the current financial crisis.

Information About E-Commerce And Affiliate Marketing

December 23rd, 2008 by KristiAmbrose | No Comments | Filed in E-Commerce

The introduction of the Internet coupled with the mass production and sales of computers in the late 70s and early 80s changed everyone’s lives. It doesn’t matter if your young or old, black or white, rich or poor. One of the main ops that has come along with the production and introduction of computers is the popularity and possibility fir millions of people to have a chance to work at home. I don’t know about you, but I can name 20 people off the top of my head that only WISHED they grew up in the computer era!

By simply going to a search engine and searching for the phrase “Business Opportunities” you are presented with millions if not billions of results to choose from! I know this will seem a little unsettling, I mean, can you really trust ALL of these people? No! I wont sugar coat it for you. But if you still want to work from home and have an incredible opportunity to make some really nice dough for your nest egg, there is one thing that you can do in order to ensure that you do business with someone you can trust. You could work for yourself! In this situation a lot of people whom choose to work for themselves under their own guidance and own rules, will choose to partake in something called E-Commerce. This is really one of the coolest things in the world that you could get into and it can be really fun!

By definition, E-Commerce consists of the buying and selling of products or services over electronic systems such as the Internet and other computer networks. The amount of trade conducted electronically has grown extraordinarily since the spread of the Internet. Now in most cases people end up getting involved in something called an E-Commerce Store which will allow you to have a website, set it up, and sell whatever items, services or products you want to sell on it. But really, how do you go about something like this? Is it easy? Can the average person do it? In my experience, this can sometimes get confusing, but there are people out there that can help you. These websites, business and companies are often referred to as E-Commerce Solutions. They help you set everything up including design, hosting, domain DNS, etc. Plus, they will usually include some major features which I have included below as a sample of whats to come:

- Access to create, delete and manage as many products as you want!
- Create, delete and manage polls around your store.
- Access to reports to view how your sales, products, orders and more.
- Create newsletters and send them out to your customers.
- Manage your product reviews from your customers.
- Change your design to suite the look you want your site to achieve.
- Set your own tax and shipment information!

So really they give you the keys to your shiny brand new business, and they help you figure things out, and they make things easier on you. Why wouldn’t you want a company like this in your life, especially when your just starting out and might not have a lot of knowledge about this kind of stuff?!? I know the other question you have as well; Is this expensive? Well, in some situations yes, it can become quite expensive.

However, I have found a few sites that will set all this stuff up for you and very cost efficient, and when your just starting out online? This is one of the MOST important things! Without the task of learning how to set it up yourself, or paying others to do so. You will be able to start your own online store for free within minutes. Check these sites out the next time YOU want to start making money online from your very own e-commerce web store!
